Explore the vibrant self-portraiture of @tiffanysmithstudio in her powerful series, “For Tropical Girls Who Have Considered Ethnogenesis When the Native Sun is Remote,” on view in the exhibition “The Unending Stream: Chapter I.”

Using the aesthetic of 19th-century ethnographic photography as a launch point, Smith reclaims representation through imagined personas, lush sets and intricate costumes that reflect a blended Caribbean heritage.

Raised between Nassau, Bahamas and Miami, Smith navigates the complexity of hybrid identity in a multinational America - fusing personal memory and cultural signifiers into visual vignettes that challenge, reclaim and empower.

The 2025 juror of “Louisiana Contemporary,” presented by The Helis Foundation is Daniel S. Palmer (@ddotpalmer), Chief Curator at @scadmoa.
⁣⁣
Like previous years, this year’s "Louisiana Contemporary" features The Helis Foundation Art Prize, a $5,000 award, chosen by the juror and given to an artist in the exhibition in support of their studio and artistic practice. In addition, cash prizes will also be awarded to first, second and third place winners.⁣⁣

Artists 18 years and older living in Louisiana are invited to submit their work now through Friday, May 23.
