Marketing and Communications Manager
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Exhibitions & Advancement, the Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for leading the promotion of the Museum’s Permanent Collection, programs, activities, exhibitions, and facilities, with the goal of visitor growth and engagement. The Marketing & Communications Manger manages the Marketing team and will ensure that brand visibility is consistent and supports the Museum’s mission and goals.
The Marketing & Communications Manager oversees one full-time Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator and on occasion one part-time Graduate Assistant and/or one part-time intern.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Marketing and Public Relations:
- Create and execute overall marketing strategies for the Museum, while ensuring adherence to brand standards
- Serve as point of contact for media. Achieve coverage for exhibitions, events and programming. Facilitate interviews and prep spokespeople as needed
- Plan, secure and design advertising
- Process and execute all public relations forms submitted by Museum departments.
- Create all marketing materials for the Museum, including quarterly mailers, invitations, membership brochures, gallery guides, sponsorship packets and other department requested materials.
- Oversee communication with outside printers and evaluate the costs and services provided
- Manage the creation and distribution of all ads including radio, digital, and paper ads
- Writing and distribution of press releases
Web and Social Media:
- Monitor, analyze and report on key metrics, including media coverage, website traffic and social engagement
- Oversee the Museum’s social media activities handled by the Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator
- Oversee and create solo blasts through constant contact as needed
- Oversee updates to the website with events and information regularly and act as primarily liaison for web development company
Community Outreach:
- Work with travel and hospitality partners to promote the Ogden Museum as a cultural destination
- Oversee the distribution of rack cards and quarterly mailers to area visitor centers and hotels
- Develop shared marketing and innovative partnerships with key arts and cultural organizations
Strategic Plan:
- Increase focus on long-lead communications planning; establish an annual multichannel marketing plan
- Build reachable audience with capable platforms, towards measurable goals
- Experiment to find media mix to reach demographics which are underrepresented in current audience:
- Undertake a major effort to re-engage the tourist audience
- Develop a dynamic digital content strategy
- Develop a compelling narrative which conveys the Museum’s status as a nexus for the exploration of art and culture of the American South
Budgeting and Reporting:
- Prepare and administer annual departmental budget
- Prepare monthly media reports, board reports and exhibition reports as needed
- Oversee annual report with support from the Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator
Miscellaneous:
- Support visitor services staff with updated gallery guides, rack cards, and signage assisted by the Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator
- Support the management of the info@ email and respond on behalf of the Museum when needed
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in marketing from an accredited university and/or five years of experience in marketing and communications
- Background or interest in the arts preferred
- Highly organized and analytical, and able to manage multiple competing priorities at once
- Keen eye for graphic design and branding
- Experience with Constant Contact preferred
- Excellent writing, editing, research, and communications skills
- Ability to form strong connections with a wide variety of people; good listening skills
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with social media trends and management
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and video editing skills
- Strong commitment to quality work and high productivity with close attention to detail
- Integrity, diplomacy and professional skills to work effectively on cross-team initiatives and to consult as appropriate
- Flexible to work occasional weekday evenings and weekends for meetings and special events
The Marketing & Communications Manager will be evaluated on a 30, 60 and 90 day probationary period.
