Will Henry Stevens was an American modernist painter best known for his pastel paintings of rural South landscapes, abstractions and non-objective artwork. Stevens was born in Vevay, Indiana in 1881. He began as a self-taught painter and mixed his own pastel formulas. Later he went on to study at the Cincinnati Art Academy to refine his art skills. In 1921, Stevens began teaching at the Newcomb College in New Orleans until his retirement. Stevens became a prominent figure in the art world with his work collected in over 40 US museums today!

Instructions
Step 1: Look at Will Henry Stevens’ artwork. What do you notice about his still life? Stevens loved creating artwork with a focus on nature. In this piece he choose to draw a floral arrangement, rather than his usual rural landscapes.
Step 2: Ask a parent or guardian for permission to explore your backyard or neighborhood garden. Look for flowers you want to draw. If you’re not able to find flowers use Google with a parent or guardian’s permission, and search “Flowers” or “Floral Arrangements”. If you can’t use the Internet, look in books for examples or use your imagination!
Step 3: Stevens’ painting is sketchy and appears quickly rendered, which gives the flowers an untamed appearance. Decide whether you want to draw your flowers tame, or wild, it is up to you!
Step 4: Use a pencil to draw your floral still life. Sketch the composition of your drawing! Start with the placement of the vase or head of a flower on your paper. Fill in more details and other flowers. Draw a background for your flowers.
Step 5: Add color to your flowers. Stevens uses color to bring flowers to life! Use your colored pencils to make your flowers pop!
Step 6: Well done! You have just completed a floral still life drawing inspired by Will Henry Stevens!

Will Henry Stevens fue un pintor modernista estadounidense mejor conocido por sus pinturas al pastel de paisajes rurales del sur, abstracciones y obras de arte no objetivas. Paso 1: Mira la obra de arte de Will Henry Stevens. ¿Qué notas sobre su naturaleza muerta? A Stevens le encantaba crear obras de arte con un enfoque en la naturaleza. En esta obra, eligió dibujar un arreglo floral, en lugar de sus habituales paisajes rurales.
Paso 2: Pídele permiso a un padre o tutor para explorar tu patio trasero o el jardín del vecindario. Busca flores que quieras dibujar. Si no puedes encontrar ninguna flor, utiliza Google con el permiso de un padre o tutor y busca “Flores” o “Arreglos florales”. Paso 3: La pintura de Stevens es esquemática y aparece retratada con rapidez, lo que le da a las flores una apariencia indómita. Decide si quieres dibujar tus flores mansas o salvajes, ¡tú decides!
Paso 4: Usa un lápiz para dibujar tu naturaleza muerta floral. ¡Boceta la composición de tu dibujo! Comienza colocando el jarrón o la cabeza de una flor en el papel. Completa con más detalles y otras flores. Dibuja un fondo para tus flores.
Paso 5: Agrega color a tus flores. ¡Stevens usa el color para darle vida a las flores! ¡Usa tus lápices de colores para que tus flores estallen de color!
