“CURRENTS” is an annual exhibition that highlights the diverse photographic work being created by @photoalliance members. It is a showcase exhibition designed to give an overview of contemporary photographic practices and projects. “CURRENTS 2024: NOPA Members Showcase” is curated by Liv Constable-Maxwell, Commissioning Editor at the London-based publisher “MACK,” and features 8 photographers.⁣

You can view “CURRENTS” at the O now through February 23, 2025.

Interested in becoming an Ogden Museum of Southern Art docent? Docents are volunteers who lead tours, helping visitors to the Museum #SeeTheSouth through the visual arts.⁣
⁣
The next session of New Docent Training will begin in January 2025. All sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.⁣
⁣
Prospective docents should have an interest in Southern culture and a desire to interact with adults and children, helping them discover their own interpretations of art. This program will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the making of an art museum and offer an introduction to Southern art, history and culture. The training will include museum techniques and education strategies for engaging museum visitors in meaningful explorations of works of art in the collection and in special exhibitions.⁣

Join us this Friday, December 13 for a FREE exhibition walkthrough of “Baldwin Lee!”

Taking place at 5 p.m., join photographer Baldwin Lee and Ogden Museum Curator of Photography Ricahrd McCabe as the two engage in a lively conversation celebrating “Baldwin Lee,” a landmark solo exhibition at Ogden Museum.

Baldwin Lee will share stories from his 5 decade career as a student, educator and practicing artist. Topics of discussion will include Lee’s formal education with two of the 20th centuries’ most influential photographers Minor White and Walker Evans to his making nearly 10,000 photographs in the 1980s – producing one of the most important visual documents of and about the American South in the past half century.

This exhibition walkthrough is part of PhotoNOLA 2024 and will take place in the photography galleries on the third floor of Steven Goldring Hall.

For “Prospect.6: The Future Is Present, The Harb

For “Prospect.6: The Future Is Present, The Harbinger Is Home,” @ateamer created “Claiborne: The Next Millennia.”

Teamer's collages remix landscapes of the southern Gulf region, examining its contentious history of water and land mismanagement and ongoing infrastructure collapse. In this new work, Teamer conjoins two fish eye photographs in a butterfly shape, which she then layers with other photographic material.

“Claiborne: The Next Millennia” presents New Orleans' Claiborne Avenue. The oldest section of Claiborne traverses Tremé, one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans and the first historically Black neighborhood in the country.

Teamer organizes her materials based on their narrative content and composition and then fits them together like a puzzle. The obvious stitching references roads and roots, which serve decorative, structural and metaphorical purposes.

@prospect_nola is on view at Ogden Museum and throughout the City of New Orleans through February 2.
