Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Teen Internship Program, formerly the Ogden Museum Teen Docent Program, is designed to provide teens a space to explore the arts and develop their creative voice.
During the summer, Teen Interns will participate in five weeks of training, learning and assisting with Fine Arts Fundamentals Camp, followed by a three-week intensive, featuring museum career exploration, community outreach, engagement with other cultural institutions and art workshops. During the school year, Teen Interns meet monthly to further develop their artistic practice through artist workshops, curation of a teen exhibition and assisting with Museum programming.
Teen Interns receive a stipend of $1000 for the 8-week summer program and $50 per meeting during the school year. Teens meet Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. during June and July and once monthly for 4-8 hours during the school year. A commitment to the year-long program is required.
Ogden Museum is committed to serving the current needs of New Orleans area teens and tackling the big issues in our local, national and global realms. This year, the program will continue to address issues such as racial equity, pluralism and environmental awareness, giving teens the access and resources they need to develop actionable ways to express themselves and be of service to their community.
Ogden Museum Teen Intern program was selected for the 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the nation’s highest honor for the out-of-school arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America’s young people.

Teen Interns will receive a stipend of $1,000 for the 8-week summer program.
During the school year, Teen Interns will attend one, four-hour meeting per month and receive a stipend of $50 per meeting.
Participants are expected to attend all meetings.
The mission of Ogden Museum of Southern Art is to broaden the knowledge, understanding, interpretation and appreciation of the visual arts and culture of the American South through its events, permanent collections, changing exhibitions, educational programs, publications and research.
All participants are expected to treat the museum staff, artists, members, patrons and colleagues with dignity and respect, conduct themselves appropriately and professionally, and uphold the values and mission of the Ogden Museum.

The National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award is the nation’s highest honor for out-of-school arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America’s young people, particularly those from underserved communities. This award recognizes and supports excellence in programs that open new pathways to learning, self-discovery, and achievement. Each year, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards recognize 12 outstanding programs in the United States, from a wide range of urban and rural settings. The National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Awards is an initiative of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH). The President’s Committee partners with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to administer the program.
