Looking at Richard Wilt’s “Farewell” On Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans Day, Bradley Sumrall, Curator of the Collection at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, tells us about Richard Wilt’s painting, Farewell.

Richard Wilt (1915 – 1981) was born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University) in 1938. Wilt served as a pilot in World War II and trained new pilots when he returned from war to a station near Greenville, South Carolina. He also taught art at the University of Michigan from 1948 to 1980.

Veterans, we thank you for your service!
