It’s that time of year again when the leaves change colors and fall from the trees, hence the name for this season; Fall or Autumn. Deciduous trees are trees that lose their leaves yearly with the seasonal temperature change.

Supplies

Fallen Leaves, Pencil, Paper  Optional: Scissors, Glue

Instructions

Step 1: Explore your backyard or neighborhood with a parent or guardian. Search for fallen leaves. Try to collect as many as you can. Look for leaves that are different colors, sizes, shapes and textures.

Step 2: After gathering leaves, find a work space in your house. You can create your artwork on a table, the floor or on a piece of paper.

Step 3: What will you create? Think about a favorite trip that you have gone on or imagine a trip you would like to go on. What does the landscape of that place look like? What colors or textures are present in the landscape? What types of plants are there?

Step 4: Investigate the leaves that you have collected. Are there leaves of a certain size, color, or shape? Notice in the example provided, the leaves are warm colors such as red, orange and yellow. Pick out which leaves you want to use. Be sure to pick leaves that are not too brittle.

Step 5: What does the background or landscape of the place look like? Arrange the leaves to create the background of the place you imagine. What plants, animals or people are there? Use scissors to cut the leaves into the shapes that you need to create plants, animals or people in the landscape. You can also rip and tear the leaves using your hands.

Step 7: If you are arranging your leaves on a sheet of paper, use a pencil to add details to elements in your landscape. Notice in the example that the person’s face and legs are drawn on.

Step 6: Take pictures of your artwork to show your family and friends. What do they think of your artwork?
