CURRENTS is an annual exhibition that highlights the diverse photographic work being created by New Orleans Photo Alliance (NOPA) members. It is a showcase exhibition designed to give an overview of contemporary photographic practices and projects. CURRENTS 2025: NOPA Members Showcase is curated by Brian Piper, PHD, the Freeman Family Curator of Photographs, Prints and Drawings at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) and features 10 photographers.

About the Curator

Brian Piper, PhD, is the Freeman Family Curator of Photographs, Prints and Drawings at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). At NOMA, his exhibition credits include Called to the Camera: Black American Studio PhotographersPicture Man: Portraits by Polo SilkShow & Tell: A Brief History of Photography and Text and Nicholas Floc’h: Fleuves-Océan, Mississippi Watershed. Piper’s current research and writing interests include the history of African American picture magazines, self-portraiture, chemigrams and the everyday lives of photographs. He holds a PhD in American Studies from the College of William & Mary in Virginia.
