CURRENTS is an annual PhotoNOLA exhibition that highlights the diverse photographic work created by New Orleans Photo Alliance members. This showcase exhibition is designed to give an overview of contemporary photographic practices and projects. CURRENTS 2020 was curated by Kilolo Luckett, art historian, cultural producer and writer. The exhibition features work by ten artists.
Kilolo Luckett is an art historian, curator and writer. With over 20 years of experience in arts administration and cultural production, she is committed to elevating the voices of underrepresented visual artists, specifically women and artists of color. She is Consulting Curator of Visual Arts at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center and serves as an Art Commissioner for the City of Pittsburgh’s Art Commission. She is the recent founder and Executive Director of ALMA|LEWIS (named after abstract artists, Alma Thomas and Norman Lewis), an experimental, contemporary art space for critical thinking, dialogue and creative expression dedicated to Black culture. Luckett is currently writing an authorized biography on Naomi Sims, one of the first Black supermodels.
PhotoNOLA is an annual celebration of photography in New Orleans, produced by the New Orleans Photo Alliance in partnership with museums, galleries and alternative venues citywide. PhotoNOLA’s broad range of programming connects and inspires our community through photography. Each December, New Orleans shines as a prime destination for photography collectors, enthusiasts and professionals in the field.
