Winter Holiday Art Camp For grades 2nd - 5th

/// December 21, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Winter Holiday Art Camp for grades 2nd – 5th!
December 20 – 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Winter is a time for reflection and celebrating the wonders we have in our lives. This winter, explore the treasures of the season and create one-of-a-kind gifts, art and mementos of what is truly important. During this year’s Winter Holiday Art Camp, kids will craft unique holiday paintings, sculptures, printmaking and mixed media art explorations — all inspired by Ogden Museum’s current exhibits and the jubilee of the season. Sign up for one day, or all four days (if you sign up for four days, you save $20.00 off your total registration fee). Projects are fun, inventive and different each day.

Monday, December 20 – Sculpt!
Start off this fun art filled week by learning about sculptural buildings by artist Beverly Buchanan and how to construct your own three dimensional dwelling. Artists will learn about blueprints, different architectural views for drawing and how to create and embellish a wooden sculpture based on a familiar building in their life. In addition, each day artists will have time to work on a playful holiday inspired craft project that can be gifted.

Tuesday, December 21 – Collage!
Day two offers an opportunity to look closely at a familiar childhood story and some striking photographs. Artists will observe, sketch and discuss photographs by RaMell Ross and his use of gesture inspired by the artist and author Shell Silverstein. A deeper dive into the ideas of surrealism and gesture will be explored through drawing techniques and a photo collage. Don’t forget, each day also includes a playful holiday inspired craft project!

Wednesday, December 22 – Print!
Day three will be a printmaking exploration inspired by the artwork of artists Katrina Andry and Welmon Sharlhorne. Artists will explore color, patterns, human and animal figures, symbols and printmaking techniques. This project will culminate with several prints of inventive animals, humans and symbols at play. Don’t forget, each day also includes a playful holiday inspired craft project!

Thursday, December 23 – Sculpt!
Day four artists will look deeply at the work of Lonnie Holey and James Surls to create a dimensional self-portrait wire sculpture collage. Artists will use their drawing skills to draw gestures of sculptures and then “draw in wire.” The project will culminate with a self portrait collage embellished with creative and inspiring supplies. Don’t forget, each day also includes a playful holiday inspired craft project!

All four camps are full day events, so please bring a snack, water and lunch. Masks are required. Space is limited so register soon!
