A Celebration of Freedom Free Admission to Honor the 156th Anniversary of Juneteenth

In honor of the 156th anniversary of Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth, 1865), Ogden Museum of Southern Art is offering free admission on Saturday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the emancipation of all formerly enslaved people in the U.S. This important moment in U.S. history did not come until two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Matthew’s Dream A Museum Introduction from Ogden Museum

Framed around "Matthew’s Dream" by Leo Lionni, kids will follow Matthew on his first visit to an art museum, connecting images from Ogden Museum to the types of art Matthew sees on his visit. Kids will participate in hands-on activities, inspired by Ogden Museum artworks and guided by a Museum Educator, using paper, color markers and dramatic play. Please have paper and coloring tools on hand. This event is free, but pre-registration is required. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.
