Los Po-Boy-Citos gets the party cooking with tasty Latin soul and raw New Orleans funk. Starting with a base of boogaloo born in 1960s Harlem, the band adds horns reminiscent of a New Orleans second line to create something uniquely original.
Los Po-Boy-Citos started out in 2006 by combining old-school boogaloo songs by Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria with New Orleans R&B hits. What began as some friends jamming together quickly morphed into a club favorite as they began to write originals that sounded as good as the classics. Their latest album Hasta introduced new boogaloo originals like “Mary Wants to Boogaloo” and “Oye Mamacita.”
Los Po-Boy-Citos has recorded two previous CDs, Brand New Dance and New Orleans Latin Soul, and a 45rpm record.
“The band’s horns vamp like the Rebirth Brass Band caught in a tangle of percussion…” – The Times Picayune
“A sweat-breaking blast of snaps, handclaps and group-sung shouts…” – Gambit Weekly
“The snappy ‘Long Way Home’ sounds like it has been around forever…” – Offbeat
Named Best Latin Band three years in a row at the Big Easy Awards, Los Poboycitos has played every major festival and venue including Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, Tipitina’s and House of Blues. They have opened for Sharon Jones and the Dapkings, Grupo Fantasma, Tower of Power, Dr. John, Rebirth Brass Band, and many more.
