ABOUT COURTNEY EGAN

Courtney Egan’s projection-based installations weave the tradition of botanical art with sculpture and technology. Strongly inspired by the profusion of native and non-native flora in New Orleans, where she has lived and worked in since 1991, her work digitally manipulates the natural world, questioning how our perception of nature is augmented by technology.

Courtney has displayed her work in solo shows at Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans, Bradbury Museum of Art, Louisiana Art and Science Museum, Colorado State University Art Museum and University of Louisiana’s Hilliard Museum. Group and two-person shows include Digital Nature at the Los Angeles Arboretum, Between Nature and Technology at the Sonoma Museum of Art, Digital Graffiti in Alys Beach, FL, Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, MO, Ballroom Marfa in Marfa, Texas and The Soap Factory in Minneapolis.

She was an artist-in-residence at the Santa Fe Art Institute and at Louisiana Artworks in New Orleans.  She is a founding member of the New Orleans-based visual arts collective Antenna Gallery. Courtney holds an M.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Her artwork has been reviewed in Sculpture Magazine, OxfordAmerican.com, PelicanBomb.com, Artforum.com and the New Orleans weekly Gambit. Her work is a part of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation collection, University Medical Center art collection in New Orleans and multiple private collections.
