Craft Happy Hour Hand (Wisk) Broom Making with Molly Koehn

Join artist and maker Molly Koehn for a Craft Happy Hour! Participants will explore the time-honored techniques of broom making.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to bind and shape broomcorn into a beautifully crafted and functional hand broom, also known as a whisk broom. In addition, you will learn about the process of cultivating broomcorn, a Sorghum grass, from seed to broom. Each participant will go home with seeds to plant of their own and at least one finished broom.

All materials provided. Must be 18 or older to attend. Adult beverages and zero proof drinks are included in registration fee.

About Molly Koehn

Molly Koehn is an artist and maker located in Houston, TX. Melding a practice repetitive actions through weaving, printing and stitching, Koehn’s work conjures glimpses into alternate and constructed realities. Her work is rooted in place and finds grounding through explorations of her present environments and research into their ecological pasts, presents and futures. Molly Koehn received an MFA with an emphasis in fibers from Arizona State University (2017) and BFA in drawing from Fort Hays State University (2013). Koehn’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is in several collections, including the Houston Endowment’s permanent collection. In addition to keeping a studio practice, Molly Koehn also teaches workshops and classes regularly.
