Rob Hudak creates prints that explore the spirit of inanimate objects that surround us. Using subjects that have personal meaning from the streets of his neighborhood or from his own collection, he captures their physical essence in the transfer of the print while giving the impression of the object a new life through design and color. The works are displayed without any protection, making them just as vulnerable to the world as the original objects used to make the print. His inspiration comes from the earthy archival qualities of archeological rubbings, the spiritual context and mystery of the Shroud of Turin (where allegedly Jesus’ body left it’s impression on the burial cloth that it touched) and from printmakers like H.N. Werkman who created compositions with printing blocks and wood type.
