Last night’s O-riginal Art Activity focused on elements of storytelling and narrative in photography. Create a narrative collage about the characters in the Nancy Newberry’s photographs.

Fine Art and Editorial photographer Nancy Newberry is interested in the strange rituals of everyday life. Known for her photographs of people, her work investigates the interplay between individuality, social affiliation, nationalism and community.

Supplies List:

Colored pencils, Glue, Scissors, Cardstock

Instructions:

Step 1: Pick out your favorite photographs.

Step 2: Use scissors to cut out the characters.

Step 3: Think about where the characters are and what they are doing.

Step 4: Draw a background for your characters using colored pencils.

Step 5: Use a glue stick to glue your characters onto your background.

Step 6: On the back of your collage write a story about your characters.
