Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Marina G. Reed has been in the New Orleans area since 1965. She holds a BS degree from the University of New Orleans in Mechanical Engineering. She is now pursuing her dream to become an artist now that she has chosen to retire from her engineering Career. She prefers watercolors because of the challenge they present due to the fast drying property of the medium. She likes to paint architectural details as well as landscapes. She does watercolor architectural renderings from photos and accepts commissions. She is a member of the New Orleans Art Association, West Bank Art Guild and La. Watercolor Society. She is mainly self-taught, but has attended many courses at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, as well as taken many workshops with known artists in the Country. She has participated in Artina Fall festival, ByWater Market, Downtown Development District Festival, Art for Art Sake, the New Orleans Art Market , French Quarter Fest, Artist Wednesday at the Marriott JW, Gretna Art Market. She has been commissioned by the Roosevelt Hotel, Friends of the Cabildo, 1850 House, Beauregard Keys House, and many private residences. Her originals, prints and cards sell throughout the city : Roosevelt Hotel, Hilton Riverside, Great Artists Collective, Forever Nola, Judy’s at the Rink, and others. Her mission is to show the beauty of the architecture in this city, as well as in the places to which she travels, incorporating this in the landscapes of the places she paints.
