Ogden Museum of Southern Art now uses ArtCall.org for online submissions to Louisiana Contemporary, Presented by The Helis Foundation.

Submit Work Online

A non-refundable fee of $40 is required and permits artists up to three submissions. If an artist would like to enter additional submissions, there is a non-refundable fee of $10 for each additional submission for a maximum of 10 submissions. All applicants who pay the non-refundable application fee of $40 will receive 2 tickets to Ogden Museum  to be used during the run of the exhibition (August 5, 2023 – February 18, 2024). Information on how to redeem these tickets will be included in an email sent out after the close of the Call for Entries.

With each submission you may upload up to three images of that piece to allow for detail shots. Accepted work will be disqualified if misrepresented or if application images are digitally enhanced. If you have any questions please contact exhibitions@ogdenmuseum.org.

For mailed submissions the Museum ONLY accepts digital images on a FLASH DRIVE.  Artists should submit electronic images in JPG format (at least 300 dpi). Entries submitted without electronic images will be disqualified. No slide entries will be accepted.

All image files should be clearly labeled in the following format: Entry#.Artist’sName.TitleOfWork.jpg

Example: 01.AmyNewell.TheGrassisAlwaysGreener.jpg

Label the flash drive with the artist’s full name and LAC. Also include on the flash drive a digital version of the artist’s bio and artist statement about each piece listed on the submission form. Mail to the above address the flash drive and a hard copy of a completed Louisiana Contemporary submission form.

All application material will become property of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Flash drives will not be returned. Artists agree that the Ogden Museum  may use images for educational and promotional purposes. Work should be original and the sole copyright property of the artist. Ogden Museum will be indemnified for any legal claims on the submitted work.

Artist may also send an SASE to the above postal address or email exhibitions@ogdenmuseum.org to request the mail in application.

Cash prizes are awarded to first, second, third place winners. An additional cash prize is awarded by The Helis Foundation to Best in Show.

ELIGIBILITY

The Louisiana Contemporary, Presented by The Helis Foundation annual juried art competition is open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the state of Louisiana (must be able to provide proof of a valid Louisiana address). All work must be original and completed within the last two years (2021-2023).

Work previously exhibited in Louisiana Contemporary should not be resubmitted. Any work submitted that exceeds the maximum size and weight will be disqualified.

MEDIA AND SIZE

All media are eligible. Work will not be judged by media categories. Work using materials that are hazardous to the health and safety of the public will not be accepted at the discretion of the Museum.

2D work must be ready for installation with appropriate hardware and hanging instructions. Works that require framing must arrive ready to hang.

3D work must be ready for display including all materials required for installation, with the exception of standard pedestal bases used by the Ogden Museum.

By submission of photography depicting people, the artist confirms that each person depicted has granted permission to be portrayed as shown. The Museum reserves the right to request proof of permission at any time prior to or during the exhibition.

New media objects must provide all mechanics for display including, but not limited to, projectors, screens, DVD players, iPads, audio equipment, headphones, computers and software.

Display and packing instructions should be included with all work. All packing material must be clearly labeled with “Artist Name, Object Title” All work should arrive at the Museum soft-packed in reusable packing material.

Work should not exceed 70lbs. in weight and 6 ft. in any direction.

DEADLINE AND JURY NOTIFICATION

Online entries will close at 11:59 p.m. Central Time Zone on Friday, May 12, 2023. Please keep in mind that application assistance from Ogden staff is only available until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12. No further entries will be accepted via the online portal after this deadline.

Mailed entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 28, 2023. No entries postmarked after April 28 will be accepted.

Notification of accepted entries will be sent through email to all applicants the week of July 3, 2023. Please be sure to add the following email addresses to your contacts so that our notifications are not delivered to your spam/junk folder:

The Juror’s decision is final. Late, incomplete or non-compliant entries will not be considered.

Accepted works (shipped or hand-delivered) must be received at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art no later than 5 pm on Friday, July 21, 2023.

INSURANCE

Accepted entries will be insured ONLY during the installation and exhibition of work at Ogden Museum. The artist is responsible for all insurance and shipping costs during travel.

Please ensure that work is securely packed with reusable packing, and labeled, for both shipped and hand-delivered submissions, and for return shipping. Ogden Museum will not be responsible for loss, theft, or damage to work due to inadequate packaging and/or shipping provisions.

All works must have an insurance value. A signed insurance form will be required for all accepted entries.

SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

Accepted entries may be shipped or hand-delivered. Shipped and hand-delivered work must be adequately packed in secure, reusable containers. Do not ship work framed with glass, but use acrylic glazing instead. Installation instructions and hardware should be included.

Shipped work must have a pre-paid label for return shipping. Work submitted without return provisions and unclaimed after 30 days after the last day of exhibition will become property of Ogden Museum.

A label must be attached to the work (not the packing material) that includes: Artist Name, Title, Medium, Year, Dimensions.

Shipped work may be sent via UPS, FedEx, DHL or USPS. All accepted entries should be received at Ogden Museum on or before Friday, July 21, 2023.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: I already submitted my application, but now I want to make a change. Is that possible? 

A: Yes, just send an email to exhibitions@ogdenmuseum.org and we can help.

Q: What commission does Ogden Museum take from artwork sales?

A: None. Ogden Museum does not facilitate artwork sales, but rather puts the patron in touch with the artist directly should there be an inquiry.

Q: My piece exceeds the size/weight requirements. Can I submit the work anyway?

A: No, the work must be within the size and weight limits set; otherwise, it will be disqualified. Please note that entries fees are non-refundable.
