Isabella A., Untitled, School: Esperanza Charter School, 2019, Crayon and watercolor

On view April 18 – May 19, 2019

Celebration on May 16, 6 – 8 p.m. during Ogden After Hours

This celebratory exhibition features drawings, prints, collages and poetry created by students during KID smART collaborative residency and after-school programming, and also provides a peek into their classrooms featuring dance, theatre and music.

KID smART partners with New Orleans public schools to blend the arts into academic lessons, making classrooms more effective and joyful places to learn. Through full-year artist residencies, students in our Creative Schools grow academically, artistically and emotionally. Whether learning the water cycle through dance or understanding fractions by mixing paint colors, the learning is dynamic, rigorous and designed so that all types of learners may excel.

KID smART is currently celebrating 20 years of integrating the arts into 40+ New Orleans schools. Over the past two decades, KID smART has worked with over 30,000 students and trained more than 5,000 local teachers in arts integration strategies.

The highest form of love is teaching a child to love themselves, and that’s what KID smART continues to do.
