Ogden Museum’s Youth Climate Action Project (led by Ogden Museum HBCU Intern Kennedy Timmons and Ogden Museum Teen Interns) uses the City of New Orleans Climate Action Plan as a catalyst for the initiative. The project consists of a collaborative art installation between Milagros Collective, Ogden Museum Interns and the community. The goal of the project is to spark conversation on the Circular Economy and Waste Reduction.

The workshops focused on Milagros Collective teaching Teen Interns their process of recycling paper and waste found in the Mississippi River to make “Crud Buddies.” Through the workshop, interns got to experiment with paper pulp, learn about microplastics and make environmentally conscious art. Additionally, interns discussed the nuances of community organizing and how to better serve their community regarding climate change. The result of the workshops is a colorful bunch of “Crud Buddies,” with every “Buddy” having a wonderful story to tell. The Museum hopes to engage visitors to collectively envision solutions to climate change challenges facing the City of New Orleans.

About the Youth Climate Action Fund Grant

In May of 2024, the City of New Orleans, in partnership with The Greater New Orleans Foundation, announced the City was selected to participate in Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund.

The Youth Climate Action Fund provides technical assistance and funding for 100 mayors to activate tens of thousands of young people ages of 15 to 24 years to design, produce and govern urgent climate solutions in their cities. The cities in the Fund span 38 countries across six continents, representing over 62 million residents. Out of the thousands of countries and cities who applied, The City of New Orleans is thrilled to have been selected as one of the Fund’s recipients.

Ogden Museum of Southern Art was one of the nine winning projects and has been selected as one of the City’s climate change partners with the project, “Ogden Museum’s Youth Climate Action Project: Circular Economy Art Installation.”
