Culture & Cocktails Featuring photographer Steve Pyke in conversation with curator Richard McCabe

Join us for Culture & Cocktails, Ogden Museum’s evening series celebrating art, ideas and conversation. This evening features Richard McCabe, Curator of  Photography, in conversation with photographer Steve Pyke. 

Begin the evening with a signature cocktail and an exclusive tour of I Am The Face led by Curator of Photography Richard McCabe. During the tour, McCabe will explore the exhibition as a meditation on the history of portraiture within Southern photography. Following the tour, photographer Steve Pyke will join McCabe for a deep dive into his work featured in the exhibition and his broader portraiture practice.

About Steve Pyke

Steve Pyke is a British photographer renowned for intimate, psychologically direct black-and-white portraits of writers, artists, and major cultural figures. Born in Leicester, he has lived and worked in London and New York and is now based in New Orleans, Louisiana, while continuing to photograph internationally. His work has been exhibited widely across Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the United States, and is held in permanent collections including the National Portrait Gallery (London and Washington, D.C.), the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Imperial War Museum, the New York Public Library, and the Museum of Modern Art (Oxford). Pyke’s publications include the landmark “photographic novel” I Could Read the Sky (with Timothy O’Grady), first published in 1997 and reissued in an expanded edition in 2024. His recent book Scribendi: Portraits of Irish Writers 1985–2025 was published by The Lilliput Press, and he was Artist-in-Residence at Photo Museum Ireland in 2025.
