Join artist Keith Duncan to explore Keith Duncan: Battle of the Bands. Participants will produce their own mixed media marching band portraits using exhibition pieces as a reference.
The workshop begins with an artist-led tour of Keith Duncan: Battle of the Bands. After, participants will learn the basics of figure drawing and focus on a band member of their choice. Portraits are finished with color pencil, markers and a selection of patterned paper.

Join the O todayAbout Keith Duncan:
Keith Duncan was born in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana in 1967. He received a BFA from Louisiana State University and an MFA from Hunter College (CUNY) New York, NY. Duncan is recognized as a visual storyteller who draws inspiration from personal narrative, community engagement, news media, art history, Black culture and the tradition of New Orleans. In his latest body of work, Duncan celebrates the vibrant tradition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) marching bands and band culture. The exhibition features large-scale fabric paintings of fifteen Southern HBCU bands, along with human-scale fabric paintings and smaller works on paper depicting each band’s drum major.
