Artist Spotlight: Paula Kovarik

April 5  – July 6, 2018

Opening ReceptionThursday, April 12 @ 6 – 8 p.m.
In conjunction with the Museum’s live music series, Ogden After Hours.

The Center for Southern Craft & Design at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is presenting its quarterly Artist Spotlight exhibition featuring work by Paula Kovarik, a fabric artist based in Memphis, Tennessee. A degree in graphic design informs her approach to her textural and multi-layered art, which she makes with thread and fabric. She says, “Stitching is an extension of my thoughts through my hands. It’s about the edges as defined by line. It’s about the inner coming out. It’s about the layered, ripped, cut and sandwiched together. I am sensitive to surprises, allowing the stitched drawings to tell me more than I think I know.” Kovarik’s work has been selected and recognized in Quilt National, Quilts=Art=Quilts, Delta Arts Exhibition and Art Quilt Elements. She was a featured artist at the Grand Rapids Museum of Art at Art Prize 2015 and has been profiled in American Craft magazine, Art Quilting Studio and Fiber Art Now.
