Ellsworth Woodward was a popular late 19th century American artist. He lived in New Orleans as an artist and educator and was one of the founders of Newcomb Pottery. Woodward advocated local crafts and homemade goods over machine made, industrialized products. He grew to become one of the most prominent figures in Southern Art during his lifetime!

Instructions
Step 1: Look at Ellsworth Woodward’s Poydras Market. What do you notice about this artwork? Poydras Market is an etching. After etching, black ink is used to transfer it to paper. Think of a storefront, market or landmark that you are familiar with or with a parent’s permission, use Google to search for subjects to draw!
Step 2: Use a pencil to begin the composition of the storefront or market you have chosen! Woodward’s work is highly detailed and depicts the scene very carefully and accurately. He captures the market in the exact moment in time that he observed it. Sketch your scene and pay close attention to details!
Step 3: Use an ink pen to trace over your pencil lines. This will mimic the effect of etching. I used blue ink but you can choose any color ink you want! Woodward’s work draws from impressionism; he etches it in a quick, sketchy manner.
Step 4: Add more details wherever you see blank space. Filling in the scene will make it appear more complete. Woodward etches something from the sky all the way down to the cobblestone street.
Step 5: Great job! You have just completed a market drawing inspired by Ellsworth Woodward!

Paso 2: ¡Usa un lápiz para comenzar la composición del escaparate o mercado que elegiste! El trabajo de Woodward es muy detallado y describe la escena con mucho cuidado y precisión.
