In celebration of International Women’s Day 2021, a global day which honors achievements made by women, we want to spotlight a collaborative work created by two remarkable artists working in sculpture, MaPó Kinnord and Lin Emery.
Featured in our current exhibition, Outside In, Improvisations of Space: The Ceramic Work of MaPó Kinnord, is this stunning kinetic sculpture made in 2021 by Kinnord and Emery. In this work exists the fusion of two approaches to sculpture – the ceramic practice of Kinnord and metal work by Emery, who is known for her kinetic creations. By combining two wholly original voices in sculpture together in one piece, Kinnord and Emery have created something that is truly beautiful and singular. It is a great honor to exhibit this piece for the very first time at Ogden Museum.
“With this highly successful collaboration, two of the greatest voices in New Orleans sculpture are presented in beautiful harmony. Masters of their respective mediums, they create forms in perfect balance, blending their unique voices into a dialogue not unlike Miles and Coltrane in dynamic and elegant improvisation.” – Bradley Sumrall, Curator of the Collection
