It’s the first day of Spring! To celebrate the new season, the O is highlighting the work of Bricolage Academy students in our Artist and Sense of Place Residency program! 

For this residency, ceramic artist Miki Glasser designed a project inspired by the indigenous flora and fauna of Louisiana. Students were introduced to photocopies of various native habitats, while learning clay techniques such as pinching and hand building. Over three class periods, 240 third and fourth grade students from Bricolage Academy worked collaboratively to build a vibrant scene depicting lush vegetation and creatures great and small, co-existing in a harmonious landscape.

Since 2001, the Ogden Museum’s Education Department has organized artist-in-residence programs, pairing Southern artists with local schools. Working with elementary school students in the medium of the artists’ choice, the artist spends three weeks exploring the influence of geography and sense of place. Upon completion of the residency, the students visit the Museum to view their finished works of art.
