Bio
As a newcomer to New Orleans, Michelle Dashev’s oil paintings are inspired by the cultural diversity and rich history of her adopted hometown. Her signature style is expressive portraiture.
In The Tradition, Michelle’s latest series of life-sized paintings, she seeks to capture the impact and grandeur of Mardi Gras Indians. ‘As an outsider, I am both captivated and compelled by the Indians. The complex history, dignity and pride on display are magnificent. I am in awe of their individual artistry and glorious celebrations of creative expression.’
A native of New England, Michelle received her B.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts. She lives uptown with her husband and two old dogs.
