Bio
New Orleans-based artist Aron Belka is best known for his large format portraits that are surprisingly intimate despite their scale. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, the Jones-Carter Gallery in South Carolina, and SCOPE New York to name a few. Belka recently completed a commissioned 11-by-14-foot mural of the late musician and composer Allen Toussaint at 188 Lafayette Street in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan. In the spring of 2016 he spent five months as an artist in residence at the highly regarded Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans and won the People’s Choice 2D Prize at ArtFields. Belka’s paintings hang in numerous private and public collections, including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation as well as a recent acquisition by the Alexandria Museum of Art. He is represented by Le Mieux Galleries in New Orleans and Quidley and Company Fine Art in Naples, Florida.
