SUMMARY:New Docent Training
DESCRIPTION:An Ogden Museum of Southern Art docent is a volunteer who leads tours\, helping visitors to the Museum See the South through the visual arts. Prospective docents should have an interest in Southern culture and a desire to interact with adults and children\, helping them discover their own interpretations of art. This program will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the making of an art museum and offer an introduction to Southern art\, history\, and culture. The training will include museum techniques and education strategies for engaging museum visitors in meaningful explorations of works of art in the collection and in special exhibitions. \nThis session of New Docent Training will begin in September 2025. Prospective Docents should attend all six training classes listed below. DESCRIPTION:Visit Ogden Museum on Saturday\, September 13\, to  participate in the opening of Raven Halfmoon: Flags of Our Mothers! \nRaven Halfmoon: Flags of Our Mothers features new and recent works made over the last five years. Commissioned by The Aldrich and Bemis Center\, the exhibition debuts Halfmoon’s largest works to date\, including a three-part stacked ceramic sculpture standing over twelve-feet tall. Learn more and RSVP by visiting here. \nOgden After Hours is sponsored in part by the New Orleans Recreation and Culture Fund. \n\nAbout Clint Maedgen \nClint Maedgen is a photographer and musician from New Orleans\, Louisiana. He works in color using continuous strips of 35mm film fused with the delicate layering of subtle tones and dynamic urban themes\, a technique he has been developing for decades. His intention is to impress upon the viewer an initial sense of wonder\, curiosity\, joy and playfulness through a provocative visual commentary on modern culture. \nMaedgen’s images reframe the familiar and everyday within unexpected contexts\, reflecting his vision of a world in constant motion. In addition to being a photographer\, Maedgen has enjoyed a prolific career as a professional musician in New Orleans for over 30 years. He was the frontman for the rock band Liquidrone from 1992 through 2004 and the creator of the interactive theatrical cabaret\, game show and musical band\, The New Orleans Bingo! Show from 2001 through 2012. Maedgen is also a member of the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, with whom he has traveled the world for twenty years and counting. He is currently releasing his own brand of original\, eclectic music under his name as a singer/songwriter. DESCRIPTION:Join Louisiana Contemporary\, presented by The Helis Foundation artist Diego Larguia in a watercolor workshop.  \nThe day will begin with an artist-led tour of the exhibition Louisiana Contemporary\, presented by The Helis Foundation. Next\, Larguia will demonstrate watercolor techniques\, focusing on a provided reference image. Participants will then create their own paintings inspired by the exhibition for the rest of the session. By the end of the workshop\, all participants will leave with a completed watercolor artwork. \nAll workshops are conducted in a friendly and welcoming environment. His life-inspired luminous watercolors celebrate both the South and beyond. A self-described “paintaholic\,” Larguia paints with a direct approach both en plein air and in the studio. Trained as an Academic painter\, his work is expressive yet formal in structure. With 30+ years of painting experience and 20+ years of teaching\, Larguia has been involved in the New Orleans art scene\, showing in galleries and Museums across the South.
