SUMMARY:YALA Baby Artsplay!
DESCRIPTION:Join Young Audiences of Louisiana for “Baby Artsplay! TM\,” presented by The Helis Foundation. \nThis free 6-part workshop series is made possible by The Helis Foundation. The 30-minute workshops provide engaging arts-based activities designed to instruct caregivers on how to use the arts at home to promote early learning. Lessons are conducted by certified Louisiana Wolf Trap Teaching Artists\, who have expertly crafted multi-sensory experiences that foster children’s natural curiosity for learning. After each workshop\, children and their caregivers can download digital Connection Cards for tips on how workshop activities can be continued at home. \n\nRegister for one workshop or for all upcoming workshops!\nMay 1  – 1-2-3\, Count with Me (Math Foundations) \nWe’re making groceries! One-to-one number correspondence\, or understanding that the word “one” is directly connected to one item\, is an important foundation in math. What better way to explore it than with food? Sing and count along as we play in everyone’s favorite room in the house\, the kitchen! \nregister for 1-2-3\, Count with Me\nMay 8 – Pass it Along (Social Skills) \nSocial skills are foundational to learning in all other domains. Children build the capacity for success in preschool and beyond by establishing themselves as individuals\, exploring what it means to possess something\, and recognizing the emotions of others. Help little ones develop the skills for healthy social interaction by playing passing and sharing games. \nregister for pass it along\nMay 15 – Opposites Attract (Word Relations) \nUp and down; large and small; big and little; fast and slow. Learning about opposites is a great way for children to develop their critical thinking skills. This early exploration with comparison builds the foundations of a host of mathematical concepts\, including understanding measurement\, time\, and spatial reasoning. \nregister for opposites attract\nMay 22 – Fun at the Zoo (Motor Skills) \nThey all asked for you! Standing on one foot\, bending\, reaching and walking in circles are important benchmarks for developing motor skills at this age. Let us show you how to get your child’s muscles moving as we mimic animals while singing and parading. \nregister for fun at the zoo\nMay 29 – Mirror\, Mirror (Social Emotional Skills) \nChildren take their cues from the grown-ups around them. At this age\, they become aware of feelings and ideas through mimicry. Learn how you can positively impact the emotional understanding of your child’s feelings using imitation games to model and express all the ways she might feel. \nregister for Mirror\, Mirror\nJun. 5 – Wild at Art (Imaginative Play) \nGet your “paint brushes” ready. Imaginative play helps your child to process the world around them. Explore colors through drama\, with a pretend painting activity that is mess-free! Learn how to engage your child’s creative side through imaginary play. \nregister for Wild at Art\n\nAbout Young Audiences of Louisiana \nYoung Audiences of Louisiana is the leading provider of arts education and integration programs in the state of Louisiana. We offer a comprehensive and creative approach to educating young minds. Fortified with years of experience\, we draw upon our city’s strong arts culture to provide young people with tools to impact their worlds using art. SUMMARY:Gallery Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join Richard McCabe\, Curator of Photography at Ogden Museum of Southern Art\, as he leads a tour of the current exhibition\, The Unending Stream: Chapter I. The studio practice of six New Orleans photographers (Tiffany Smith\, Thom Bennett\, Brittany Markert\, Kevin Kline\, Trenity Thomas and Jacob Mitchell) will be discussed. \nPhotographers Trenity Thomas and Kevin Kline will be present to talk about their individual projects. \nFree and open to the community. \n\nAbout The Unending Stream: Chapter I \nThe Unending Stream: Chapter I\, highlights New Orleans’ thriving photography community. The title of the exhibition pays homage to a Clarence John Laughlin photograph of the same title\, which is a part of the permanent collection at Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Laughlin’s seminal work\, created between the 1930s and 1950s\, is an important chapter in the long-storied relationship between New Orleans and photography. Following in his visionary footsteps\, this exhibition focuses on contemporary New Orleans photographers who continue to capture the American South through visually poetic imagery. \nLearn more about the exhibition \n/// Event image: Kevin Kline\, Elysian Fields and Dauphine St. (Detail)\, 2022\, Gelatin silver print\, 15 x 15 inches\, Collection of the artist
