DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, September 10 – October 15\, 4-5:30 p.m.\nGrades 2-5 \nAwaken your child’s imagination and creativity in our Ogden Museum After School Art Club! Kids will gain both confidence and an understanding of the visual arts while building painting\, drawing\, sculpture and mixed-media skills. \nThe fall session will take place on six consecutive Thursdays\, September 10 – October 15\, 4-5:30 p.m. Through virtually guided\, hands-on art projects\, students will develop an eye for color\, composition and design while learning about artists and art of the American South. \nBefore the session begins\, each student will receive an art box with all the supplies needed for the session. During each weekly class\, Museum Educator Mikhayla Harrell will be live on Zoom to guide kids through deep art observation\, critical thinking\, art making procedures and mindfulness practices. \nThe club begins with a virtual docent tour of a current exhibition and throughout the sessions\, we will explore a variety of artistic realms\, such as still life\, animals\, people\, landscapes and abstraction. DESCRIPTION:Reestablish your foundation this fall in a six-week figurative art class.  \nThe focus of this course is figurative representation. We will be drawing our inspiration from works of art in the permanent collection and currently on exhibition by artists like Sharon Kopriva\, Enrique Alférez\, Purvis Young and many more. The course begins with figure drawing studies and progresses to realistic and abstract acrylic painting techniques. Topics of discussion and contemplation will include the “gaze” of the artist on the human form and how to incorporate simple mindfulness exercises into your artistic practice to enhance creative flow. \nThis weekly class meets once a week virtually from 12 – 3 p.m. on Mondays\, September 14- October 19. \n$200 members / $250 non-members \nRegister\nSupplies: \nPlease come prepared with the following art supplies. DESCRIPTION:Led by New Orleans photographer\, Aubrey Edwards! This program\, for students in grades 6 – 12\, takes place online Wednesdays\, September 16 – October 21\, 4 – 5:30 p.m.⁣ \nOgden Museum After School Photography Club is a space for young artists to create\, explore photographic techniques\, share their images and make new friends.  \nEach week\, students will be given an assignment with a particular theme\, building off what they learned in live online meets. In each live meet\, students will share the work they created that week\, reflect on their process\, learn a new photographic technique and concept\, and have a hands on lesson.  \nBy the end of our club program\, students will understand composition\, different types of lighting\, how to use images to tell a story\, and how to comfortably use their cameras.  \nPhotography club participants may use any type of digital camera (including phone cameras). DESCRIPTION:Hey y’all! Please join us for a deep dive exploring the richness and diversity of Southern art and artists. You’re welcome to join in participatory discussions about the art\, or sit back\, look and listen. The choice is yours! On select Thursday afternoons this fall\, museum educator Sara Echaniz will facilitate an in-depth conversation about art and artists from Ogden Museum’s permanent collection and current exhibitions. Free\, but pre-registration is required and space is limited. We limit attendance for Hey Y’all as this program involves discussion and participation that is better suited for a smaller group. DESCRIPTION:Join us for 30 minutes of Art + Zen! \nEvery Wednesday at noon\, join us for a LIVE seated mindfulness meditation inspired by a work of Southern art. This online meditation program is led by Ogden Museum Educator and yoga and meditation instructor\, Mikhayla Harrell. All experience levels welcome. Registration required. \nRegistration is FREE\, but if you are able\, please consider a donation of $5 to help us continue to present creative arts programming inspired by Southern art and artists. \nA separate registration is required for each program. Before the program begins\, registrants will receive a link to join the workshop via Zoom. DESCRIPTION:Every artist needs a sketchbook! In this second Drawing 101 series\, learn the ins and outs of sketching\, including how to construct your own sketchbook. Participants are encouraged to tune in each week for a new drawing exercise with Museum Educator\, Michelle Pontiff\, for an evening of stress-free\, beginner-level drawing classes designed to build your drawing skills. \nAbout this session: Explore value in order to create texture in your drawings. \nMaterials: Paper\, Pencil\, Eraser \nRegister\nA separate registration is required for each class. In her role\, she is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of education programs and grant writing for the Education Department. Michelle manages public programs\, such as Free Family Days and Day with an Artist and facilitates school tours and art activities.
