SUMMARY:Davis Rogan
DESCRIPTION:Davis draws his musical inspiration from Professor Longhair and Fats Domino\, as does every New Orleans rhythm and blues piano player. What separates Davis is his lyrics. The wit\, irony and self-deprecation echo Randy Newman\, but the wry observations about life\, humanity and New Orleans are uniquely his. This combination of roots music and sharp lyrics\, heard in the 2005 release\, The Once and Future DJ\, drew auteur David Simon to Davis as David prepared his HBO series about New Orleans\, TREME. Davis began working as a consultant and\, over six years and four seasons of the show\, served as an actor\, a scriptwriter\, a piano coach\, a songwriter and the muse for the character Davis McAlary. By the series’ end\, Davis had written or placed more music in the show than any other musician. \nDavis is a fifth-generation New Orleanian who was raised in the Carrollton neighborhood. He currently resides in Treme. He began his broadcast career on WTUL at the age of 10\, did his college radio stint at KRRC and was a DJ at WWOZ for 13 years. After graduating from Reed College with a BA in English\, Davis began the dual path of teaching elementary school music for the Orleans Parish Public Schools and performing music professionally. Davis’ first gig was with Kermit Ruffins\, but he came to prominence in the New Orleans music scene with his eight-piece funk\, brass and hip hop group ALL THAT\, for which he was lead singer\, band leader\, principal songwriter\, arranger and producer. There are three albums to their credit\, including one on Rounder Records. \nIn the early aughts\, Davis formed a small rhythm and blues band featuring his original  material. 2005’s The Once and Future DJ led to the work on the show TREME. 2011’s The Real was a rumination on the meta existence of writing songs for a character who bears one’s name. In 2014\, with the show wrapped\, Davis wrote Ex Machina. While rooted in New Orleans R&B\, this album harkens back to the funk and rap sounds of his earlier work. Critics have called it his best yet. \nDavis has played solo and with his band throughout the United States and Europe. He is available for solo\, group\, workshop and instructional performances. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Joy Clark
DESCRIPTION:Joy Clark’s musical artistry feels like a warm\, fresh twist on the fervently familiar. Her tranquil yet ardent original creations are a heady mix of her major influences. Think Tracy Chapman\, Lizz Wright\, Maxwell\, Anita Baker\, Stevie Nicks and Chris Eaton. Now add a bluesy bayou vibe with a splash of folk sensibility and a dash of alternative appeal\, and you’ll understand why this homegrown New Orleans singer/ songwriter/guitarist transcends both age and the ordinary. \nHaving studied her self-taught craft since the age of 12\, Joy truly embodies the bliss that comes with creating melodies and rhythms to celebrate peace and the undeniable power of love. Her music is often described as the essence of ease\, upliftment\, self-affirmation and sensitivity. It’s no wonder that she quickly rose to critical acclaim as a founding member of the disbanded Soulkestra. Joy has also performed with Water Seed\, and living-legend Cyril Neville\, and continues to enchant audiences throughout the Southern United States and around the world. \nPurchase Tickets\n \n

Some examples are: his role as a committee member for the development of a public art master plan for the city of Suwanee\, Ga. and his initiatives leading to the first annual temporary outdoor sculpture exhibition in the city of Decatur\, Ga. \nPhil Proctor occupies an 11\,000 square foot studio in south Atlanta where he works to generate his sculpture and other specialty metal work. His company is Nucleus Sculpture Studio LLC\, where he designs\, fabricates and installs custom projects for designers\, artists and the motion picture industry. \nKennedy Yanko – “Three Ways” \nKennedy Yanko is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist working primarilywith found objects and paint. Her formal gesture towards material is balanced by her examination of the paradoxes within perception. \nSince debuting sculptures from her “Elements and Skin” collection as part of a Derrick Adams-curated group show\, “Hidden in Plain Sight” (Jenkins Johnson Project Space. Brooklyn\, N.Y.\, 2017)\, Yanko has shown regularly at galleries and fairs domestically and internationally. Her work belongs to the JP Morgan Chase Collection\, and the collections of Beth Rudin deWoody\, and Helyn Goldenberg. In 2018 Yanko was named “Artist of the Week” during Armory Week by MilkMagazine and profiled by Vice. She exhibited in Cry of Victory and Short Walks to Freedom as part of Hank Willis Thomas’ national For Freedoms project\, and was a part of Parallels and Peripheries at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. In 2019\, Yanko’s solo shows include Highly Worked (Denny Dimin Gallery\, NY)\, Hannah (Kavi Gupta\, Chicago)\, and Before Words (UICA\, Grand Rapids). Each of these shows reveals the gravity of abstraction and its utility as an intuitive tool in understanding present realities. \n\nAbout The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation \nThe Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation was founded in 2013 as an initiative of non-profit organization\, Sculpture for New Orleans\, and has quickly become the South’s leading rotating public sculpture exhibition. Sculptor Michael Manjarris founded Sculpture for New Orleans shortly after Hurricane Katrina with the mission of lifting the spirits of the people of New Orleans through public art and providing local and regional artists the opportunity to show in a public venue. \nA unique example of a public-private partnership\, Sculpture for New Orleans\, The Helis Foundation\, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art\, and The City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways work together to bring interesting and inspiring sculpture to the residents of and visitors to New Orleans. \nThe Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation has installed over 35 sculptures by artists of local and international acclaim on Poydras Street between Convention Center Boulevard and South Galvez. \n/// Photo by Tamir Kalifa

SUMMARY:Craft Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for another fun edition of Craft Happy Hour with Ella Campbell as she leads participants in the art of collage! \nAttendees will create a multilayer 8” x 10” original work\, featuring a geometric collaged silhouette. Layered beneath the silhouette\, participants are encouraged to experiment with magazine cuttings\, book pages and other paper goods. Supplies will be provided\, and participants will be able to choose from over 30 available silhouettes such as animals\, gemstones\, plants and more. \nParticipants may also bring any magazine clippings\, paint swatches\, or book pages for their collages. Keepsakes like maps\, tickets and programs (that have been tucked away in a shoebox) are great examples of items to use while collaging as a way to make a sweet memento that is easy to display. \nElla Campbell is a self-taught collage artist based in New Orleans. She recently finished a successful solo installation exhibition at Aquarium Gallery and has work on view in a variety of group shows around the city. She is currently Membership Coordinator at the Arts Council of New Orleans and earning her masters degree in Arts Administration at the University of New Orleans. \n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Kevin Gordon
DESCRIPTION:Kevin Gordon’s Louisiana is a strange place. It’s a place where restless teens road trip to where the highway dead-ends at the Gulf of Mexico; a place where prisoners who are in for life compete in a rodeo while the town watches; where a character can get lost in the humid afternoon and where religion may not signify hope; and where rivers\, never far away\, carry secrets behind levees. “One of the things I like about it and am mystified by is that what passes for normal in Louisiana would not make the grade elsewhere\,” he says. \nThe kicker? All of these postcards are based on true stories. It’s a place that he’s been exploring for twenty years now\, on the eve of the release of his astonishing new album ‘Tilt & Shine’ on Crowville Media. It is work that has earned him fans like noted author and Elvis Presley biographer Peter Guralnick; New West Records artist Buddy Miller; journalist\, songwriter\, and Country Music Hall of Fame staffer Peter Cooper; Todd Snider; head of the Americana Music Association Jed Hilly; and Lucinda Williams\, with whom he dueted on the song “Down To The Well” (which was featured prominently on an Oxford American compilation). \nBefore you even hear his vivid lyrics\, you start feeling the sound of that ’56 Gibson ES-125 tuned down to open D\, often with the tremolo flowing like a river\, and an unstoppable groove distilled from swamp blues and Sun Records. His MFA from the Iowa Poetry Writers’ Workshop allows him to capture it with a degree of precision. As the New York Times put it in its headline of a feature on Kevin\, “A Musican Or A Poet? Yes to Both.” \nKevin sums it up\, “There are so many stories in north Louisiana and it’s a place that nobody pays attention to. For me\, you can feel the arc of time passing. I’m captivated by the power of strong memories—those films that run continuously in your mind\, if you let ‘em.” With ‘Tilt & Shine\,’ those movies translate into rock and roll poetry. \n\n\nPurchase Tickets
