SUMMARY:Pop-Up Opening
DESCRIPTION:“An Homage to Nimble Fingers” is a body of work that Kami Galeana created to acknowledge and honor centuries’ worth of embroidery produced by women from various places around the world. \nGaleana states\, “Embroidery is one of the earliest art forms\, but it rarely survives into modernity. As long as humans have been clothed\, they have desired to adorn these garments with embellishments. In this sense\, embroidery is a collective heritage\, but this skill in many nations was relegated to women in some part as a concession for their exemption from “higher” forms of art. \nGaleana’s work is available for purchase in the Museum Store throughout July. \nLearn More\n/// Photo by Kami Galeana

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Film Screening & Talk During OAH
DESCRIPTION:In anticipation of inclement weather\, the Ogden Museum will close at 5 p.m. today and the Ogden After Hours film screening for this evening has been cancelled. \n⁣⁣ \nIn collaboration with the New Orleans Film Society\, the Ogden Museum presents “Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts\,” a film exploring the life of a unique African American artist\, a man with a remarkable and unlikely biography. \nPrior to the screening\, Leslie Umberger\, Curator of Folk and Self-Taught Art\, Smithsonian American Art Museum\, will discuss “The Art of Bill Traylor: Interpreting a Visual History.”  \nFollowing the screening\, Ogden Museum Curator of the Collection\, Bradley Sumrall will moderate a Q&A with Umberger and Jeffrey Wolf\, the film’s director\, producer and editor. \nThis event is free to Ogden Museum and New Orleans Film Society members. \nAbout the Talk \nIn “The Art of Bill Traylor: Interpreting a Visual History\,” Leslie Umberger\, curator of folk and self-taught art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) in Washington\, will discuss the art and life of the artist Bill Traylor\, as well as the challenges of researching and interpreting an autobiographical oeuvre recorded almost solely in pictures. Umberger organized Between Worlds: the Art of Bill Traylor for SAAM in 2018-19\, and is the author of the accompanying monograph\, which presents an unparalleled look at an enigmatic artist whose lifetime in Alabama bridged the final years of slavery and the dawning civil rights movement.  \n/// Photograph by Albert Kraus/Collection of Tommy Giles Photographic Services \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Sam Price & the True Believers at Ogden After Hours
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Ogden After Hours in collaboration with 64 Parishes! Learn more about this publication and enjoy live music by Sam Price & the True Believers! \nSam Price & the True Believers was formed in December 2015 by bass player Sam Price (Honey Island Swamp Band\, OTRA) as an expressive outlet for his original song-writing and singing. The band has quickly gained popularity in New Orleans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheir self-titled debut EP was chosen ‘Best Roots Rock Album of 2017’ by Offbeat Magazine. They were awarded a grant from the Threadhead Cultural Foundation to record a full-length follow up record\, which was produced by Papa Mali and released in March 2019. \nTheir music has been described as “relentlessly positive” and “so from the heart\, it hurts!” \nCall it Soul-Rock\, New Orleans Roots Rock\, or Blue-Eyed Soul. The True Believers deliver songs that are alternately upbeat and rocking\, slinky and funky\, or mellow and poignant\, with lyrics that are thoughtful and emotionally honest. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe band seeks to use music to inspire\, uplift\, empower and unite. To celebrate our collective\, shared humanity. “We believe that Love is the most powerful force in the Universe\, and the very soul of humankind.” \nPurchase Tickets\n\nAbout 64 Parishes\n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n64 Parishes is a project of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH).
