SUMMARY:Jimbo Mathus
DESCRIPTION:Jimbo Mathus has blazed a singular path as a singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, producer and shaman for 40 years\, recording and releasing more than 300 songs that are a testament to his hoodoo craftsmanship and to the sounds\, sights and spirits of his inspirations in the deep South. His new album\, Incinerator\, which debuts on April 5 via Mississippi’s Big Legal Mess Records\, is the epitome of that art — an incendiary reflection of his world in music. \nMathus describes the 11 songs on Incinerator as “a huge tapestry of my experiences\, hard work and dedication to living a creative life. I really took stock of what I do and why I do it … why I weave stories and dreams and visions I have into songs. And I tried to squeeze every bit of meaning out of every note and every word I wrote and recorded. It’s impossible to separate this album from me. This is who I am.” \nIncinerator was recorded in a burst of inspiration\, with all but overdubs cut in just two days in Water Valley\, Mississippi’s Dial Back Sound. Surprisingly\, Mathus\, who has produced dozens of albums\, decided to hand the controls to Bronson Tew and Drive-By Truckers bassist Matt Patton\, who co-own Dial Back\, and opted to play piano instead of his trademark guitar. \n“I wanted to get to the soul of these songs\, without distractions\,” says Mathus. “So\, I decided to play piano and record my singing live in the studio. It’s instinctual for me to plug in an electric guitar and rock. But I was seeking the kind of perfection you find in Romantic poetry. I wanted to hear the lyrics surrounded by space\, and then add colors after I considered what was needed.” \nThe results are full of warmth and heart\, with Mathus’ dusty Magnolia State-breeze of a voice at the fore. The opening track “You Are Like a Song” was one of the first written\, and sets the tone for Incinerator. The tune has a bedrock of acoustic instruments and a harmonizing eight-voice chorus that\, paired with Mathus’ rural landscape imagery and recollections of love and loss\, make it seem like an undiscovered gem from the Band. \nPurchase Tickets

DESCRIPTION:Indigo Strings is a piano trio plus vocals. Think that sounds classical? It ain’t necessarily so. A unique ensemble comprised of piano\, violin and cello\, topped off with a vibrant soprano presents the Great American Songbook at its best. This confluence of classical training\, the influence of Tin Pan Alley and the heat of New Orleans brings out the best of the American Classics.  \nStarting as a piano violin duo in 2015\, Indigo Strings brought a new twist to hit songs of the ‘30s\, ‘40s and ‘50s. Expanding to include soprano and cello\, the foursome evolved into a tight ensemble with a jazzy vibe. Audiences in New Orleans\, Baton Rouge and the Gulf Coast have tapped their toes to the tunes of Indigo Strings\, delighting in the music of years gone by. \nPurchase Tickets\n*** \nMarta Vincent is a music therapist\, pianist and a Great Highland bagpiper in the New Orleans area. She graduated from Loyola University where she was selected as a competition winner to perform a Mozart piano concerto with the university’s orchestra. She has performed throughout the New Orleans area on both pipes and piano. As a bagpiper\, was honored to ceremoniously present President William Clinton\, President George H.W. Bush and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. She also piped for several Rod Stewart performances in the Louisiana Superdome. In her work as a music therapist\, Marta has been fortunate to meet and ultimately be influenced by many musicians from the early eras of jazz\, swing and gospel. Listen closely and you may sense these many flavors of music coming from the piano. \nAnne Hibbs is a professional violinist and teacher with a passion for live performance and helping others find their own music. After winning scholarships and earning degrees from Louisiana State University and Loyola University in performance\, Anne toured throughout Europe as a soloist with Loyola’s chamber orchestra. She has played classical music professionally with the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Orquesta de Camara Vericruzana in Mexico. She has also provided stage music for Liberace and Tommy Tune at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. Anne entered the film industry as on-site violin coach with Academy Award-winning production\, Twelve Years a Slave. Currently\, Anne performs in the New Orleans and the Gulf South region playing classical music with the Fine Arts Ensemble\, country classics at the Abita Opry and Celtic fiddle with New Orleans Strathspey and Reel Society. \nRebecca Holmes is a music educator with the St. John the Baptist Parish public schools. Rebecca is the district Master Teacher of music\, a unique role which allows her to represent district music teachers as they strive to develop quality\, equitable music experiences for all students. She offers focused instructional coaching and leads music teachers in professional development activities. Rebecca is also a teaching fellow with Louisiana A+ Schools\, a state-wide arts integration initiative. Through this educational network\, she facilitates creative and meaningful professional development\, empowering academic content teachers to infuse instruction with the arts. She received her professional degree in Music Education from Loyola University. Though Classically trained\, Rebecca enjoys promoting the versatility of the cello through the performance of a variety of music. \nArynne Fannin is a graduate of the Newcomb College and the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University\, with an M.F.A. in musical theatre. She was a soloist in the inaugural concert of the Clara del Marmol and Annabelle Bernard Vocal Series. She has delivered lecture concerts for the Jane Austen Literary Festival in Mandeville\, LA and for the New Orleans Jane Austen Society. She also performs as a vocalist with the New Orleans Strathspey and Reel Society. \n

DESCRIPTION:We’ve all heard the story of the preacher’s musical son before: the Stetson Stratoliner-wearing\, bearded dreamer who up and moved to Nashville with nothing more than a Martin and a prayer. Caleb Elliott isn’t that. His story is something wilder. It comes from some place deeper. It’s a story the lanky\, long-haired Louisianan has begun to tell on his debut album Forever to Fade. The swamp-art-rock record bridges the distance between the classically-trained sideman he was to the songwriting frontman he’s become; the 480 miles between his musical origins in Natchitoches and Lafayette to his new home in The Shoals of Alabama; and the shift between a gothic upbringing inside a cult-style religion to finding mental and artistic liberation. While riding in the backseats of tour vans with Nicole Atkins\, Dylan LeBlanc and Travis Meadows\, and backing other artists like Lera Lynn\, John Paul White\, Donnie Fritts and Sean McConnell in the studio\, Caleb never stopped writing his own material. DESCRIPTION:Diverse and dynamic vocalist and performer Anthea (a.k.a. Jewels) Sidiropoulos has enjoyed a music career spanning over 15 years as an indie-artist. She has covered everything from originals to covers in blues\, funk\, rock\, soul and in the likes of Janis Joplin\, Tina Turner\, Aretha Franklin\, the Greek blues (Rembetika)\, the Greek love songs (Kantathes) and the 60s and 70s ‘new wave’ and ‘entekno’ art music of Greece. \nAnthea has produced four CDs and has appeared on many others. Aside from the genres previously mentioned\, two of the CDs she released were of Meditation and relaxation content. \nA vocalist for numerous bands\, Anthea has collaborated with many significant figures and composers in the music industry and received extensive vocal training from the more reputable institutions and vocalists in Australia\, including Bettine McCorn at Melba Conservatorium of Music and composing and arranging with Joe Paparone at Eastern Hill Conservatorium. \nAnthea’s diversely colorful musical past has prepared her to present her future performances of her own songs\, interspersed with contemporary and traditional Greek folk-art pieces\, some of which can be found on her CD\, “Full Circle.” \nPurchase Tickets
