SUMMARY:Pop-Up Opening
DESCRIPTION:New Orleans artist Samantha Mullen believes “hands are the incarnation of the secret feud between beauty abstracted from meaning and human connotation\, between the real and the imagined\, between work and play.” This is reflected in her work  – “the symbiosis of contradicting forms and ideas.” A pyrographic artist\, Mullen’s craft is wood burning\, and she hopes to burn things forever. Her brilliant work is available for purchase in the Museum Store through March 31.  \n/// Image courtesy of Samantha Mullen

SUMMARY:Grad Student Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our next Grad Student Gathering\, a Preparator Walk-through of Vernacular Voices\, on Thursday\, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. This series aims to connect young professionals in the museum and nonprofit fields across the Greater New Orleans area. \nThe night’s event will focus on preparatory work in museums. Enjoy a preparator walk-through of Vernacular Voices: Self-taught\, Outsider and Visionary Art from the Permanent Collection and a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming exhibition\, Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé. Participants are invited to stay for Ogden After Hours\, the Museum’s weekly entertainment series featuring a performance Cha Wa (FREE admission to OAH for all attendees). Don’t miss your chance to get a behind-the-scenes peek at the O! \nVernacular Voices brings together a range of works by Self-taught\, Outsider and Visionary artists from the American South to showcase the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s significant collection of Vernacular Art. Together\, these works offer a broad view of the practices of a diverse group of artists who share many commonalities\, perhaps the most important being that they have each created truly original bodies of work outside of any formal academic dialogue. This is art drawn from life itself – intuitive\, honest and tied to the culture in which it was created. \nThe Ogden Museum is proud to present an exhibition of the works of American Abstract Expressionist artist\, Dusti Bongé. Piercing the Inner Wall brings together works from throughout her career to tell the story of one woman’s fierce dedication to a creative life\, culminating in a body of work that stands testament to her strong contribution to American Art after World War II. \nWhile this program is FREE\, we are asking that participants register so that we may have an indication of how many people to expect. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Marc Stone 3 with Sam Price and Michael Burkart
DESCRIPTION:Roots and blues slide guitarist and songwriter\, Marc Stone\, returns to Ogden After Hours with a special acoustic trio performance. Joining Marc will be Honey Island Swamp Band bassist Sam Price\, leader of both Otra and the True Believers. Price has been a frequent collaborator with Stone for more than 20 years\, as has Raw Oyster Cult and Mikey B3 Band keyboardist/vocalist\, Michael Burkart. Individually\, they have worked with an enormous array of legendary artists and notable bands\, each making their distinct mark on the New Orleans scene with their original music. \nPrice and Burkart have both contributed to Stone’s recordings and originals from his four releases. A wide range of influences and experiences will be on tap\, alongside some classic acoustic Blues and a few special surprises. Look for lots of interplay between these longtime musical compatriots\, and a lot of groove from a small band. \nWhile at the O for Ogden After Hours\, explore our new exhibition\, Margarita Cabrera\, Presented by The Center for Southern Craft & Design! Cabrera is a multi-media sculptural artist who lives and works in El Paso\, Texas\, creating sculptures that address socio-political community issues including cultural identity\, migration\, violence\, inclusivity\, labor and empowerment. \nPurchase Tickets\nImage credit: The Gold Frame
