SUMMARY:Shake 'Em Up Jazz Band
DESCRIPTION:In June of 2016\, Shaye Cohn assembled an all-female cast of traditional jazz musicians to perform for Girls Rock New Orleans. These amazing women had a blast playing together and caused a stir from their first performance. Requests to play started pouring in\, and the band agreed they’d love to continue working together. Although Shaye wouldn’t be able to continue as a full-time member\, Haruka Kikuchi joined up\, bringing along her exciting Kid Ory-inspired trombone. Marla\, Chloe\, Haruka\, Molly\, Julie\, and Dizzy have been playing together since that first performance\, and have been thrilled to bring some other talented New Orleans musicians into the mix from time to time. \n\n\nOn the strength of their first performances\, and because of the stellar reputations of the individual musicians\, Shake ‘Em Up was immediately booked as a special guest at the Abita Springs Opry\, the Abita Springs Busker Fest\, the Pensacola Swing Dance Festival and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia\, Italy (July 2017). The band has also enjoyed a steady stream of bookings at various New Orleans clubs\, including The Spotted Cat\, Fritzel’s\, Buffa’s\, and The Dragon’s Den. In addition to club bookings\, you can catch the band later this year at the Nevermore Jazz Ball & Swing Dance Festival (St. Louis\, MO / November 2017). \nIn June 2017\, Shake ‘Em Up headed into Bunny Friend Studio (brainchild of Shake ‘Em Up’s own Molly Reeves) and recorded a 10-track session which will be officially released on Friday\, July 7th\, at the band’s inaugural appearance at the Umbria Jazz Festival. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Kettle Black
DESCRIPTION:Kettle Black is a quiet dance\, a tiny explosion expanding exponentially; it is funky\, heartfelt\, and unmistakably New Orleans. The brainchild of singer-songwriter Keith Burnstein\, the band is a double percussion discussion that fans out the African and Cuban influences found in New Orleans music to create a new American songbook. \nPurchase Tickets \nImage Credit: Painting by Lauren Marie Breaux

SUMMARY:Alexandra Scott & Her Magical Band
DESCRIPTION:Alexandra Scott’s music has equal footing around a campfire or in a musical den on St. Claude Avenue. At her core\, she’s a singer & urban songwriter with a country sense of the world that shows up in her songs. A native of the countryside of Virginia who lived all over\, but never felt at home anywhere until she found her way to New Orleans in 2000\, her folk-inflected songs resound with the movements of graceful galloping horses\, with beats and electronic voices\, and with her eye for beauty\, self-revelation and humor. She calls her music ‘dreamabilly\,’ mixing her mountain bluegrass origins with her love of all things post-Eno. \nAlexandra has been compared to Neil Young\, Emmylou Harris\, Radiohead & Gillian Welch. She plays guitar and piano and sings with a sweet purity that reflects her early training in theatre and singing jazz (which she still loves to do). She has performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival\, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival & Preservation Hall. She has won an Independent Music Award & has released five critically acclaimed albums. \nHer passions beyond music include writing fiction\, dance\, practicing & teaching yoga\, gardening & working with animals. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Ingrid Lucia
DESCRIPTION:Ingrid Lucia was raised in a family band\, playing on homemade rafts\, buses\, and good old fashioned train trips. The Flying Neutrinos\, while calling New Orleans their home\, performed on every street corner of the U.S.\, Mexico\, Europe\, and Russia. Their claim to fame were performances with two Mexican circuses. \nInherent of her father Poppa Neutrino’s strong will and self-ownership\, as a young adult Ingrid boldly started her own traditional jazz band in NYC. The new Flying Neutrinos became one of the forerunners of the retro swing movement. Signed by the Cure’s record label\, Fiction\, they toured Europe and the states\, connecting punk rockers and swing nerds everywhere. \nTheir album “The Hotel Child” charted number 12 on Billboard Jazz Charts. It was always Ingrid’s dream to show the younger generation how traditional jazz energy was the original American rock and roll. She returned home to New Orleans to reconnect with her roots and the players who inspire and co-create with her. She began to write\, produce\, and record original material that speaks out to today’s generation while maintaining the authentic tools that keep the New Orleans sound instilled in her music. \nTen albums later\, her recording “Living the Life” was a tribute to her late father. Produced by Roland Guerin\, “Living the Life” was nominated for three awards with Offbeat Magazine\, as well as being their number 9 pick out of their top 25 for the year. Downbeat Magazine named it editors pick in the June 2014 issue. \nIngrid Lucia is a lifer. She has always played music and she always will. Join her as she continues on a musical journey and explores the unknown on this roller coaster called life. \nPurchase Tickets\nPhoto credit: Kristen Fouquet
