SUMMARY:Tuba Skinny
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2009\, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into a solid ensemble dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences – from spirituals to depression-era blues\, from ragtime to traditional jazz – their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound\, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs and their barnstorming live performances. \n  \n\n\n\n\n“…the strength of these young trad jazz players remains their ensemble work. In tune after tune\, the core instrumental sextet nails the classic New Orleans contrapuntal collective improvisation\, instantly evoking another era while at the same time delightfully of the moment.” – Clea Simon\, Offbeat\, April 2016 \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Spencer Bohren
DESCRIPTION:Born into a gospel-singing family in Wyoming in 1950\, Spencer Bohren began singing and playing music as youngster. At 14\, inspired by the folk music he heard on the radio\, Spencer picked up a guitar and within a few weeks started performing in public. He immediately delved deeply into America’s treasure of blues\, country\, gospel and folk music\, soaking up guitar styles and historical details. In the 1960s and 1970s\, Spencer played with rock\, country and blues bands throughout the western US. By the mid-1970s\, Spencer and his wife\, Marilyn\, found a spiritual home in the city of New Orleans\, and started their family there. \nNew Orleans had a profound effect on Spencer\, and he quickly became a fixture on the local music scene. Spencer began touring\, this time in the southern U.S. Before long he made the daring decision to bring his family on the road so they could be together. For seven years they lived on the road\, Spencer performing around the U.S.\, sharing his love of America’s music and singing his own original songs. He also began a recording career\, which has produced 16 albums. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Tom McDermott & Chloe Feoranzo
DESCRIPTION:Tom McDermott is one of New Orleans’ premiere piano players and composers. He grew up in St. Louis\, where he earned a Masters’ Degree in Music\, wrote music journalism\, and soaked up the sounds of ragtime and traditional jazz that flourished there in the 1960s and 70s. In 1984\, spurred by his love of James Booker\, Professor Longhair and Dr. John\, he moved to New Orleans\, a trip enabled by a gig at the World’s Fair. McDermott has since traveled the world performing with the Dukes of Dixieland\, co-founded the modern brass band the New Orleans Nightcrawlers\, written music for television and theater\, and portrayed himself in the HBO Series Treme. Known for his eclecticism\, McDermott is just about the only New Orleans pianist to stretch from the mid-19th-century music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk\, to the funky New Orleans piano today. He has a great love of Brazilian music\, the Beatles\, European classical music\, early Duke Ellington\, and much more. \nChloe Feoranzo is a 24 year old clarinet and saxophonist who has been performing professionally since the age of 15. She grew up playing in youth orchestras\, musical pits\, along with swing\, dixieland bands and guest artist at festivals of the Southern California area.  She just completed a three year international tour with Pokey LaFarge also appearing on various shows like\, The Late Show with David Letterman\, Prairie Home Companion and the Grand Ole Opry. She now resides in New Orleans\, LA as a freelance musician. \nPhoto by Gregg Goldman. \nPurchase Tickets
