DESCRIPTION:Hey y’all! Please join us for a deep dive exploring the richness and diversity of Southern art and artists. You’re welcome to join in participatory discussions about the art\, or sit back\, look and listen. The choice is yours! \nEvery First Thursday at noon\, Museum Educator Sara Echaniz will facilitate an in-depth conversation about art and artists from Ogden Museum’s permanent collection and current exhibitions. \nFree\, but pre-registration is required and space is limited. We limit attendance for Hey Y’all as this program involves discussion and participation that is better suited for a smaller group. DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON WORKSHOP WITH JOHN BARNES! \nJoin us for a series of three sculpture workshops exploring BUILT: Sculptural Art from the Permanent Collection\, an exhibition of sculpture from the permanent collection. Each workshop includes a tour of BUILT and in-depth discussion with an artist featured in the exhibition\, followed by an art-making workshop led by the artist. \nIn this artist-led workshop\, “Cardboard Heaven\,” John Barnes will demonstrate how simple cardboard media can be transformed into significant and personal artwork. Participants will use materials such as: cereal boxes and shoe boxes to create a funky windowsill with blinds. \nMaterials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring additional cereal or shoes boxes to the workshop\, if able. \n$40 members/$45 non-members \nRegistration required. After you register\, you will receive 2 emails: a virtual ticket and an email containing additional details about the workshop. If you do not receive the email\, please make sure to check your junk folder. \nRegister\n \nAbout John Barnes: \nJohn Barnes is a sculptor from Bogalusa\, Louisiana who mainly creates  wood assemblages. Barnes first took an interest in art when he started elementary school\, but his passion flourished while at Southern A&M University. Using wood found in his Algiers neighborhood\, Barnes combines debris and refuse (litter or garbage) into intricate designs. Be inspired by Southern artists\, landscapes and the flora and fauna that live in this bioregion!\nParticipants are encouraged to tune in once a month for a new drawing exercise with Museum Educator\, Michelle Pontiff. Take a stress-free lunch break and join this beginner-level drawing class designed to build your drawing skills. In each class\, participants with learn about a Southern artist whose work is inspired by nature. In a guided conversation\, participants will explore the artists’ style and interpretation of nature; followed by an instructional drawing exercise. \nFREE\, but pre-registration is required.
