DESCRIPTION:Explore The Whole Drum Will Sound: Women in Southern Abstraction with exhibiting artist\, Shawne Major\, and create your own abstract composition. Equally conversant in the main traditions of assemblage art since early modernism and the folk art traditions of the American South\, Major’s work is an artist’s haul of sewn disparate materials pulled into self-revelatory patterns. Made from products of disposable production – buttons\, electrical wiring\, wood\, plastic toys\, fabric and the like – Major creates a remix tableaux with a three-dimensional materiality. \nThis workshop is full. DESCRIPTION:Join artist and educator\, Mikhayla Anderson\, for a lively afternoon of drawing inspired by Salazar: Portraits of Influence in Spanish New Orleans\, 1785 – 1802 in the historic rotunda of the Ogden Museum’s Patrick F. Taylor Library. A curated experience linking the exhibition to an immersive drawing exercise\, this workshop will explore the elements that create a striking portrait\, discuss the socio-cultural implications of why portraits were/are painted and practice the basic techniques of figure drawing with a live nude model. \nFor ages 21 and older.
