DESCRIPTION:Every August the Ogden Museum of Southern Art\, in connection with Whitney White Linen Night\, hosts its opening reception for its annual exhibition Louisiana Contemporary Presented by The Helis Foundation. Established in 2012\, this statewide\, juried exhibition promotes contemporary art practices in the state of Louisiana\, provides exhibition space for the exposition of living artist’s work\, and engages a contemporary audience that recognizes the vibrant visual culture of Louisiana and the role of New Orleans as a rising\, international art center.

SUMMARY:A Photographic Eye
DESCRIPTION:Stop by the first-floor circle gallery during Whitney White Linen Night to see what the Ogden Museum’s Photography Campers created this summer. \nWorking with photographer and educator Aubrey Edwards\, campers from the Ogden Museum 2017 Photography Camp spent their first week of camp learning basic elements of photography including composition\, exposure\, storytelling\, and functions of their camera. During the second week\, students focused on more advanced areas of photography such as photojournalism\, portraiture\, architectural and still life. Campers also explored technical and advanced aspects of photography\, including studio lighting set ups\, photo shoot design\, and planning. Through feedback and constructive critique\, campers created a portfolio of edited work culminating in this student-curated exhibition. \nThe exhibition is on view in the first-floor circle gallery through September 4\, 2017. \nimage credit: Hannah Davis\, Magenta

DESCRIPTION:Join the Ogden Museum for our Solar Eclipse viewing party! Stop by the museum on August 21st from 11:30am to 1:30pm to witness the Solar Eclipse from our rooftop terrace. We’ll have waters and soft drinks\, a  Cold Brew Bar from Solo Espresso and La Cocinita food truck will be out in front of the museum selling delicious bites! So come on by during your lunch break and witness this once in a lifetime event from the roof of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. \nEntry is free for members\, and free for Louisiana residents\, courtesy of the Helis Foundation. 1/2 price admission for non-Louisiana general public.
