SUMMARY:Margie Perez and Friends with special guest Patrice Fisher
DESCRIPTION:Ogden After Hours is a monthly event that takes place on every third Thursday of the month and features a diverse lineup of programs reflecting and celebrating the diversity of Southern art and culture. \nMargie Perez is a vivacious Singer and Songwriter specializing in a versatile blend of Blues\, Pop and Latin with a New Orleans Funky touch. Dubbed by Offbeat Magazine as “One of the hardest working musicians in New Orleans” she leads her own band which performs her original music\, and is leader of the 10 piece Latin ensemble\, Muevelo. Her 2017 release “Love Is All” was named one of “Offbeat’s” 50 Favorite CD’s. She received 3 of Offbeat’s “Best of the Beat” award nominations and was featured on WWNO’s “Music Inside Out” with a charming interview by Gwen Thompkins. \nLatin jazz harpist\, Patrice Fisher favors the music of New Orleans\, Brazil and Cuba\, saying that\, not only is the harp ‘comfortable’ harmonically with the music\, but she is drawn to its complexities and syncopations: “That’s what makes you want to dance.” Patrice is a graduate of Tulane and Wolf Trap and lives in New Orleans\, where she has been composing and performing since the 1980’s. She has appeared at numerous international jazz festivals with her group\, “Arpa\,” in Bolivia\, Brazil\, Cancun and Guatemala. Patrice has 15 CDs of original music\, the latest being “Happy Socks.” She has performed\, for more than 30 years\, at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Patrice also performs Celtic music and directs the New Orleans Celtic Harp Ensemble. Patrice regularly performs a guest artist with many international jazz musicians in Germany\, Mexico\, Brazil\, United Kingdom\, Canada & Guatemala. \n“An unexpected delight!” raves David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine. Gene Scaramuzzo of Gambit newspaper says “There are many sides to this local composer/harpist. Strong rhythms form the undercurrent of her instrumental music with Arpa.” \nPurchase Tickets\nJoin us for an opening reception and book signing celebrating Elegance & Decadence: Photographs by Richard Sexton (by Richard Sexton\, photographer\, and Randolph Delehanty\, writer) on Thursday\, Sept. 21 from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to Ogden After Hours. \nNew Orleans: Elegance and Decadence features 17 photographs by Richard Sexton from the book of the same name\, which has become in the 30 years since its release\, a contemporary classic. \nLearn More
