SUMMARY:K12 Educator Workshop: Día de los Muertos in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of professional development focused on bringing the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos into your classroom. \nDuring this workshop\, teachers will receive comprehensive information on how to meaningfully incorporate the Día de los Muertos tradition into their curriculum\, including: \n\nA detailed history of the celebration\nReady-to-implement lesson plans\nHands-on art projects suitable for various grade levels\n\nArtist Cynthia Ramirez will discuss the traditional elements and cultural significance of altar building and then guide participants through a hands-on art activity to create altar elements that will be incorporated into the museum’s community ofrenda. \nParticipants will leave with a complete resource packet including curriculum units\, activity guides and materials that can be immediately implemented in their classrooms to help students understand and appreciate this important Latin American tradition. \nThis workshop is designed for educators at all levels who wish to integrate arts-based learning into their teaching practice. The workshop begins with a welcome dinner at 5 p.m.\, followed by an interactive professional development session from 5:30 p.m. \nFree\, but advanced registration required. Questions?
