SUMMARY:Adult Art Class
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.\nOctober 8\, 15\, 22 and 29 \nJoin Museum Educator Myron Solomon\, Jr.\, for a four-week journey into painting and crafts inspired by Louisiana Contemporary\, presented by The Helis Foundation.  \nDuring the series\, students will create two original works of art informed by themes and techniques explored in the exhibition. The first project will focus on the basics of portraiture embellished with multimedia elements\, inspired by the relief portrait assemblages of Karen Ocker. Next\, students will gather inspiration from Monette McCollough’s vibrant New Orleans themed quilts. The second project will explore textile collage\, incorporating patterned fabric into an original design. Participants will leave the workshop series with a better understanding of portraiture\, the basic elements of design and utilization of multimedia materials. \nSupplies provided\, but personal collage and painting materials are encouraged. A Dillard University BFA and School of Visual Arts MFA graduate\, his work pushes beyond traditional New Orleans art while honoring its cultural roots. Exploring existential themes\, Myron uses hyperbole to evoke introspection in his audience. His passion for the arts extends to education\, where he shares his knowledge with youth\, aiming to inspire the same transformative experiences that shaped his own journey.
