DESCRIPTION:An Ogden Museum of Southern Art docent is a volunteer who leads tours\, helping visitors to the Museum See the South through the visual arts. Prospective docents should have an interest in Southern culture and a desire to interact with adults and children\, helping them discover their own interpretations of art. This program will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the making of an art museum and offer an introduction to Southern art\, history\, and culture. The training will include museum techniques and education strategies for engaging museum visitors in meaningful explorations of works of art in the collection and in special exhibitions. \nThis session of New Docent Training will begin in September 2023. Prospective Docents should attend all six training classes listed below. SUMMARY:Artist Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join teaching artist Diego Larguia to explore watercolor painting in this artist workshop. \nInspired by a selection of 19th Century Landscapes from Ogden Museum’s permanent collection\, the day will begin with a brief discussion of the landscape paintings featured in the current exhibition\, Knowing Who We Are: A 20th Anniversary Exhibition. Following the discussion\, Diego Larguia will then demonstrate drawing and watercolor techniques applied to landscape painting. For the remainder of the workshop\, participants will produce their own watercolor landscape using a piece from the collection as inspiration. \nAll workshops are conducted in a friendly and welcoming environment. Working both in watercolor and oils\, his representational work extends to still life\, figure\, portrait and landscape. He has been painting for over 30 years\, showing his work in galleries and museums across the south. He studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and has taught at this same institution for 20 plus years.
